Reception Class

We would like to start our new topic of "Who will we meet?" next week. We will be finding out about friends, how to be one and how to make them. We will also be taking on the  "Pori Drwy Stori Nursery Rhyme Challenge". We will be learning a range of Nursery Rhymes and using these for different kind of activities in school. To launch our project we would like ALL children to come to school on Tuesday 29th September as a Nursery Rhyme character. It does not need to be a fancy costume, it could be a hat or a mask that they can wear or they can bring something that shows which character they are. For example Jack or Jill could bring a bucket to put water in or Mary Mary could bring her watering can. We look forward to finding out who we will meet on Tuesday!

Here are the Pori Drwy Stori Rhymes, we will be using some of these and some others and will let you know on Twitter each week which rhymes we are focusing on. We will start next week with finding our which rhymes the children know.

Welcome back everyone!

It is lovely to see all the children back, it has been a delight to have a few days with smaller groups and we are getting to know your children. Over the next few weeks we will be carrying out out baseline assessments, these are nothing to worry about and will help us to plan the children's next steps in their learning. Please see the leaflet below for more information on life in Reception! We look forward to working with you,

Kind regards

Miss Alexander, Jacqui and Natalie

A little word about using the internet for learning

While we are learning in a different way I will be recommending a number of ‘website links’ for you to access with your children in order to support their learning or use as a starting point for our learning. I have looked at the links I cannot guarantee that they will run on all hardware/devices and at Gladstone Primary School we are not responsible for the content/method shown. Also please remember that the safest way for your children to access things online is with a grown up.
Thank you, stay safe online and off xx

Some fun ideas for learning to read and spell high frequency words

Welcome to Gladstone Reception Class!
Croeso i Dosbarth Derbyn!

Our Aim - Making independent learners and developing a love for learning!
Our grown ups in Reception are;
Miss Alexander – Class Teacher
Jaime and Jacqui –  Learning Support Assistant

Other grown ups that work in the Foundation Phase are;  Miss Glass (year 1) Miss Morgan (year 2) and Kerry, Nicola, Donna work as Learning Support.

Our Reception Class takes 30 children and we anticipate being a full class again this year.
Our aim in Reception is to build on children’s previous learning experiences and continue to develop independence. Over the course of the Reception year children will become independent learners. There will still be practical learning activities and the children will use the outdoor area for learning. Our children also have opportunities to use our Challenge Zone, this is an area used by Reception, Year One and Two. It provides us with additional space allowing opportunities for pupils to work in groups either on a focused task or using activities planned through pupil voice. Through accessing resources pupils develop independence and are encouraged to be creative in their learning and learn from other pupils.

In our Reception class pupils work in a variety of ways. They will experience whole class learning and children work in groups too. Much of the learning is practical and helps children to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding they will need to record their work. Children have opportunities to develop their own personal independent learning and are introduced to our "Learning Leader Challenges". These challenges are based on our current topic and skills we are developing, pupils are encouraged to suggest ideas for activities they can do all by themselves.
You will receive newsletters to update you on what topics and learning we are covering each term and you will be able to come into school to discuss your child’s progress. There will also be opportunities to come into school to see a class assembly, find out what we’ve done in project weeks and attend workshops to find out more about how you can support your child’s learning at home.
We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions or concerns at any time and need to speak to a member of staff please ask at hand over time and we can arrange a convenient time.
