Class 3

Welcome to Class 3

Year 3 is an important year in your child's education because the children move from the Foundation Phase into a more formal KS2 National Curriculum setting. The children will continue to experience lots of fun, exciting and stimulating activities but they will be topic based. This term our topic is 'Is there anybody put there?' This is a Space based topic.

Everyday your child is involved in a reading based activity group e.g. focused group reading, follow up activities,  individual reading, reading games, book corner, listening to stories etc to develop a further understanding of their reading materials. These groups are rotated so that all children get the opportunity to develop their reading skills

In Maths we will be following the Programme of Study for Maths in Wales and using Abacus as a resource. This scheme also provides exciting homework opportunities which compliment our class work and will aid with your child's learning. This is called Active Learn and each child will have a log-in for it. They will be able to access activities the class teacher sets for them, at home.

Mental Maths is very important and in Gladstone we are following the Big Maths scheme. One aspect is the 'Learn Its' and pupils are expected to know their tables as well as they know their own name!! We will send home some tasks with the children- PLEASE PRACTISE THEM EVERY DAY FOR 15 MINUTES, this will greatly improve their daily maths work!

Please ask your children to show you our HWB site, they should all have log on details (if there is a problem please let us know so we can rectify asap). Later on in the year we will be contributing to discussions and been writing a class blog.
As with all internet related technology please ensure you properly inform your children about the potential dangers of the internet (we are continuously developing this at school also):-

1. Always ask a trusted adult for permission before you log on to the internet.
 2. If you see something online which makes you feel uncomfortable, report to a trusted adult immediately.
3. Keep your log in details and personal information safe- don't tell anyone else!
4. Don't meet up with anyone you meet online, always tell an adult if someone asks you to meet up.
5. Don't post any images online which you may later regret, always ask a trusted adult first.

P.E. will take place on Tuesday [PE] and Thursday [Games] so please make sure  that your child has their kit in school and that all jewellery is removed.

Home Reading
Your child will be encouraged to bring their reading book home every evening. Please make every effort to listen to your child read and record a comment in their Reading Record Book. Please see the comprehension questions document below, which will give you some example questions to ask as your child is reading to you. Your child needs to have their reading book in school every day!

We are very much looking forward to a very exciting term, if you would like to speak to us please either make an appointment with the office or wait until the end of the school day and we will endeavour to help as best we can.
