Well year 3, it is the last week of the term and the year. I am so sad to be saying goodbye to you all and even more disappointed that we won't all be spending the end of the year together. Please make sure you keep in touch, especially using our Flipgrid platform where you can see each other and leave videos fro your friends that you have missed!
Week beginning 6.7.2020
It was so lovely to see some of you last week!! I hope you are all managing to complete the 'Home Learning Grid', we will be taking a look at some of your work next week. Here are some new activities that for this week alongside the Home Learning Grid. Have a great weekend and I will see you next week!

Hi year 3! I hope you are all well and am so excited to see you this week! Although we will be 'catching up' in class, I will still be uploading the work on to here and on to our Google classroom. There will be powerpoints to help with some of the learning activities as well. If you are having any issues or problems accessing the online learning please email me ASAP at, I will also be going through all the platforms again when we are back in school, just to make sure you can all access them.

It has been a long time since we have seen each other and so we will be having a lot of time to share our feelings. This time together is to 'Check in and catch up'. In class we will be focusing on our topic, 'Happy and Healthy', all of the activities we do in class will also be available in our Google classroom.

I can't wait to see all your smiling faces this week!!laugh

Father's Day is Sunday 21st here are some activities and ideas for you to make!

It is the last half term of year 3 and we are not together, I am missing you all so much!

I hope you are all well and have had a fantastic half term, I know lots of you have still been busy working and I have loved seeing what you are up to. There have been some fantastic boats made to carry animals and coins. There are lots of you using seesaw but I'd love to see more videos of you on flipgrid and more of you on Google classrooms. If you are having any issues with these please email me to let me know. I will be phoning again this week and will hopefully speak to you all, if not I'll leave a message.

Take care, stay safe. Missing you all, Mrs Rhys-Williams.

Can you find out what the Celts ate? Find out if they grew it, made it or farmed it. You can create a powerpoint on Office 365, slides in Google classroom or write notes in your homework book.

Create your own outfit for either a Celt or a Roman. Show your design however you like, draw and label, make a collage using materials, make an outfit for yourself or a family member and take pictures. I'd love to see them on seesaw, flip grid or even emailed to me. Get creating Year 3!!!

Inference - here is the image from the cover of our book for the next few weeks, what do you think this book is going to be about?

Welcome to Class 3

Year 3 is an important year in your child's education because the children move from the Foundation Phase into a more formal KS2 National Curriculum setting. The children will continue to experience lots of fun, exciting and stimulating activities but they will be topic based.

We really enjoyed our autumn topic and are looking forward to our new topic!

Spring term our topic is 'What colour are a zebras stripes?' This is an animal based topic. We will be looking at different groups of animals and how they are classified and looking at different activities linked to animals and their habitats.

Autumn term our topic was 'Is there anybody put there?' This is a Space based topic.

Everyday your child is involved in a reading based activity group e.g. focused group reading, follow up activities,  individual reading, reading games, book corner, listening to stories etc to develop a further understanding of their reading materials. These groups are rotated so that all children get the opportunity to develop their reading skills

In Maths we will be following the Programme of Study for Maths in Wales and using Abacus as a resource. This scheme also provides exciting homework opportunities which compliment our class work and will aid with your child's learning. This is called Active Learn and each child will have a log-in for it. They will be able to access activities the class teacher sets for them, at home.

Mental Maths is very important and in Gladstone we are following the Big Maths scheme. One aspect is the 'Learn Its' and pupils are expected to know their tables as well as they know their own name!! We will send home some tasks with the children- PLEASE PRACTISE THEM EVERY DAY FOR 15 MINUTES, this will greatly improve their daily maths work!

Please ask your children to show you our HWB site, they should all have log on details (if there is a problem please let us know so we can rectify asap). Later on in the year we will be contributing to discussions and been writing a class blog.
As with all internet related technology please ensure you properly inform your children about the potential dangers of the internet (we are continuously developing this at school also):-

1. Always ask a trusted adult for permission before you log on to the internet.
 2. If you see something online which makes you feel uncomfortable, report to a trusted adult immediately.
3. Keep your log in details and personal information safe- don't tell anyone else!
4. Don't meet up with anyone you meet online, always tell an adult if someone asks you to meet up.
5. Don't post any images online which you may later regret, always ask a trusted adult first.

P.E. will take place on Tuesday [PE] and Thursday [Games] so please make sure  that your child has their kit in school and that all jewellery is removed.

Home Reading
Your child will be encouraged to bring their reading book home every evening. Please make every effort to listen to your child read and record a comment in their Reading Record Book. Please see the comprehension questions document below, which will give you some example questions to ask as your child is reading to you. Your child needs to have their reading book in school every day!

We are very much looking forward to a very exciting term, if you would like to speak to us please either make an appointment with the office or wait until the end of the school day and we will endeavour to help as best we can.
Mrs Rhys-Williams and Mrs Kearns
