Autumn Term 2019

Class Teacher – Miss Morgan

Learning Support Assistant – Miss Miller

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our theme this half term is “Who you gonna call?”

The children have already started planning the topic and have suggested some fantastic activities.

Health and Well-being

Our focus this half term is developing pupil understanding of rules.  Pupils have started developing class rules and sharing their understanding of right and wrong.  We will also be taking part in activities during Anti-bullying week.

Physical Development - PE Sessions

Our PE sessions are on Tuesdays and Fridays.  It is important that pupils have appropriate clothing in school for these sessions – leggings/joggers, t-shirt and trainers.

Please remember that all jewellery must be removed prior to these lessons.

Language, Literacy and Communication - Home Reading

Guided Reading sessions are at the start of the day so it’s important that children are on time every morning.

Children will have different reading experiences throughout the week in guided reading sessions.

Children must bring their book bag to school every day. Your child will change their reading book at least once a week.

Mathematics and Numeracy

In Year 2, the children will be completing a range of numeracy activities everyday including number, data, measure and problem solving.  All pupils have access to their interactive homework and will have already brought home their Active Learn login details.

Every Monday, pupils will also have homework based on the previous week’s learning.

All pupils complete their Big Maths tests every Friday. The ‘Beat That’ test is a range of addition and multiplication calculations.  The ‘CLIC’ tests pupils understanding of counting in different ways, recall of learn-its and calculations.

Humanities (History and Geography)

The children will be learning about Superheroes within their local community and also exploring Superheroes around the world.  They will have the opportunity to research people of historical significance that have had a positive impact upon the world.

Outdoors

We will be using the outdoor areas as often as possible and therefore pupils need appropriate clothing.  Please can you ensure that your child has suitable footwear and also a coat that has been clearly labelled.

Parents Meetings

Parent’s meetings will be completed within October where we will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress.  If you have any concerns before these meetings then please don’t hesitate to speak to me to arrange a meeting.

Thank you for your support.

Miss Morgan
