In Art and DT we will be creating our own Celtic artwork and you may even see a Celtic roundhouse!
In Maths we will be following our new and exciting Abacus scheme. This scheme provides exciting homework opportunities which compliment our class work and will aid with your child's learning. The homework will be available online and we will very shortly provide your child with log in details as well as internet safety guildelines.
Mental Maths is very important and in Gladstone we are following the Big Maths scheme. One aspect is the 'Learn Its' and pupils are expected to know their tables as well as they know their own name!! We will send home some tasks with the children- PLEASE PRACTISE THEM EVERY DAY FOR 15 MINUTES, this will greatly improve their daily maths work!
Please ask your children to show you our HWB site, they should all have log on details (if there is a problem please let us know so we can rectify asap). Later on in the year we will be contributing to discussions and been writing a class blog.
As with all internet related technology please ensure you properly inform your children about the potential dangers of the internet (we are continuously developing this at school also):-
1. Always ask a trusted adult for permission before you log on to the internet.
2. If you see something online which makes you feel uncomfortable, report to a trusted adult immediately.
3. Keep your log in details and personal information safe- don't tell anyone else!
4. Don't meet up with anyone you meet online, always tell an adult if someone asks you to meet up.
5. Don't post any images online which you may later regret, always ask a trusted adult first.
P.E. will take place on Monday [Games] and Friday [Dance/Gym] so please make sure that your child has their kit in school and that all jewellery is removed.
Every Friday your child will bring home a task to do related to the work completed that week. It will be collected the following Friday, please help you child if they should need it but it should be their own work.
Your child will be encouraged to bring their reading book home every evening. Please make every effort to listen to your child read and record a comment in their Reading Record Book. Please see the comprehension questions document below, which will give you some example questions to ask as your child is reading to you. Your child needs to have their reading book in school every day!
We are very much looking forward to a very exciting term, if you would like to speak to us please either make an appointment with the office or wait until the end of the school day and we will endeavour to help as best we can.
